Need to improve your negotiation skills? Are you eager to improve your marketability?

Become a Florida Supreme Court Certified County Mediator.

Mr. Dunlap offers a 20 hour (3 day) mediation certification training course. Trainees will receive a copy of all relevant mediation statutes and rules. This interactive training will consist of lectures, group discussions, written exercises, and mediation simulations. Trainees will also be required to reduce an agreement to writing. Each trainee will be required to participate in at least one continuous role play acting as the sole mediator and at least one continuous role play as the disputant (plaintiff/defendant). During a role play in which the trainee acts as the mediator, trainees will be expected to deliver an opening statement and mediate the dispute to either resolution or for 45 minutes. The objective of the role play is for the trainee to develop confidence and experience as a mediator. Each role play will be conducted under the observation of a qualified primary or assistant trainer who will provide a minimum of 20 minutes of oral and written feedback to the trainee/mediator. The trainers will provide each trainee with a copy of the written feedback at the conclusion of his or her role play as a mediator.

Trainees will learn negotiation
theory, the qualities of an effective mediator, strategies for resolving conflict, the stages of the mediation process, ethical issues in mediation, bringing parties to agreement, dealing with power imbalances and angry parties, and the lawyer's role in the mediation process. These skills can easily be utilized to informally and proactively resolve conflict in the workplace, in friendships, and in the home.

All training materials will be provided.

Cost: $475 (Must be received by May 28); Early Registration $450 (Must be received by May 21); $425 Law Student Rate (BARRY, FAMU, FLORIDA COASTAL, STETSON). CALL FOR AVAILABILITY AFTER May 28). If you are interested in a group rate, contact Mr. Dunlap at 321-230-3088.
